Description

The Champion Templar is the final boss of Challenge Trials and all three PVP arenas. It has higher health than all enemies that appear before it and has multiple abilities capable of stunning towers, damaging units and supporting enemies. It has four abilities, with one of them being Weaponry Switch. This makes it swap between its hammer and minigun for 2.5 seconds. Depending on which mode is currently active, it can use different abilities. When wielding its minigun, it can only use its Focused Fire ability. This makes it lock onto a target within its range of 20 units, then charge up a powerful shot. After a short delay will cause it to fire with a firerate of 0.05, dealing 600 damage to units and stunning towers for 4 seconds. It will keep firing for 4 seconds. When wielding its hammer, it has two abilities, Hammer Throw and Fiery Boon. Hammer Throw makes the Champion Templar throw its hammer at a target within its range of 25 units, creating an explosion with a radius of 10 on impact. This explosion applies a 4 second stun and 4 second 25% Range Debuff to towers, while also dealing 600 damage to units. Fiery Boon makes the Champion Templar slam the ground with its hammer, creating a defense aura that makes enemies, including itself, Blessed. The impact from the aura will also damage all units by 600 and stun towers for 4 seconds within its range of 15.

Strategy

The Champion Templar is backed by plenty of Brutes, Molten Titans and Fallen Guardians. It is advised to bring high-end towers like the Accelerator, Necromancer, Mercenary Base and Minigunner to defeat it. Unstunnable towers like Pursuit and Ranger can be useful against the Champion Templar as they can consistently deal full damage without being stunned. The Champion Templar boasts extremely short cooldowns with heavy stuns, so towers like the Medic can be helpful to counteract Focused Fire and Hammer Throw. High-end DPS towers are suggested to take down Blessed enemies, and defense melting towers like the Pyromancer are invaluable to have, due to the incredibly high defense values. While defense dropping towers may look useless to bring due to Blessed preventing it, this is actually a delayed benefit for them. If a tower debuff is applied during the Blessed debuff, any defense that would normally be dropped while it is Blessed will be dropped after it ends while still accounting for the 100% it gave. For example, an enemy with 40% defense would have 140% when Blessed. If a Pyromancer attempts to drop its defense while Blessed, nothing will happen until it ends, where the entire 40% defense is removed. This is due to it dropping 50% of its defense, and while Blessed, that would be 70%, which is more than 40% leading to it being removed entirely. They are, however, entirely useless once the Champion Templar is the only enemy, since when Blessed ends it will have no defense to reduce.

Trivia

The Champion Templar Logbook can only be obtained through Challenge Trials. The Champion Templar is a reimagining of the legacy Templar enemy. Because of this, it is likely named after the Knights Templar, a Catholic medieval chivalric order, most infamously known for the Crusades. The Champion Templar is unaffected by enemy appearance modifiers, such as Talk Like a Pirate Day. Interestingly, inside the Champion Templar’s torso lies a mini Champion Templar with no animations.
