Strategy

  • As players with the Ironclad class are spawned with a full set of armor, they can take more damage from enemies without the risk of dying.

  • Since the Ironclad is so slow, it's recommended to obtain a Horse as soon as possible.

  • When playing in a team, the Ironclad pairs nicely with a Doctor, with the Doctor acting as a healer while the Ironclad tanks most of the damage.

  • The Cowboy is also a good pick as the free Horse lets the Ironclad move around faster.

  • The Musician could also work due to its mediocre but consistent healing passive with its Banjo.

Pros & cons

  • Spawns with a full set of Armor giving the player 50% resistance from projectile and melee damage. Look at Armor's benefits.

  • Armor blocks gun shots if the armor is hit, similar to the Ironclad Zombie, reducing the damage further.

  • Won't have to spend money on Armor, which is quite costly and doesn't always appear in General Stores.

Patch history

  • Although the in game description states that the Ironclad's Armor is what reduces their movement speed, taking the armor off does not remove the debuff. Additionally, other Classes don't suffer the same movement penalty when wearing Armor.

  • This is likely an oversight by the developers.

  • This is one of the only classes in the game that has only negative abilities and no positive abilities.

  • The other Class is Hunter, though it's possible to use its mechanic for an advantage.

  • Prior to the 16/3/2025 Update, the Ironclad's Armor could be sold at the Trading Post, providing players with a huge amount of starting cash for an "unfair" playstyle.
