Overview[1]

x1 Saddle; x1 Revolver; x2 Revolver Ammo The Cowboy is an offensive Class in Dead Rails.

The Cowboy spawns with a Revolver, 2 boxes of Revolver Ammo, a Saddle, and can spawn a Horse at the start. With a decent starting weapon and an option providing additional mobility, the Cowboy is a great pick for players looking for an extra edge in the early game, though its advantages wear off later in the game. x1 Shovel x1 Saddle x1 Revolver x2 Revolver Ammo Spawns with a Revolver and 48 Revolver Ammo, allowing players to easily kill a few enemies from early on, for example, could easily clear a town with good usage. Spawns with a Horse and Saddle, providing excellent mobility from the start and the ability to outrun all Enemies. Great for completing the Pony Express challenge. As a loadout class Cowboy has no abilities and falls off mid to late game, proving the starter kit only useful for early game.

Strategies

The Horse and Saddle may not spawn close enough to each other for the Horse to be tamed right away. As such, it is recommended to open the Cowboy's starting Crate inside of a building to prevent the Horse from running away. The Cowboy is one of the best options for players wanting to complete the Pony Express challenge as it provides a saddled Horse from the start. A good strategy for when playing in a team is to scout ahead for anything of interest and wait for the rest of the team to catch up on the Train. This is particularly useful if there is another building ahead of the one currently being raided, so the Cowboy player can quickly loot it as well. If a player is ahead of the Train and wants to quickly get on it, the fastest method is to put their Horse in your bag, wait on the rails, and when the Train approaches, jump, and land on the front. Note that this is dangerous at night due to the enemy spawns. If Night falls and your team is in a hurry to start the Train, they should not worry about Cowboy players since they can easily survive most nights by simply outrunning enemies on horseback. The Cowboy players can later catch up at the next Fortified Town or Point of Interest. If you own the Mauser gamepass, you can use the provided ammo for the former instead. The Cowboy class has a small chance to spawn with a Unicorn. Thus, by repeatedly joining matches until you get a Unicorn, you can complete the Tame a Unicorn Challenge or obtain a much faster version of the Horse.

Bugs

Placing a Horse halfway inside of a wall and riding it allows you to clip through walls. This applies to all Horses, not just the one spawned from the class, but this can be played tactically early game to gain advantages. The Revolver this Class starts with is very similar to the old Revolver before the Weapons Animation rework. Dropping it on the ground and picking it up will revert it back to the regular Revolver. The same seems to happen with Alien (Class)'s Ray Rifle.

Patch history

The Cowboy's price upon release was 35 Bonds. The None class originally wore the Cowboy’s hat. Cowboy's Horse(not including the Saddle) is said by the game to be a passive ability(said to be a tamed Horse by the game, but the Saddle is a starting item and not part of the Horse) instead of starting items, so it is not listed in the in-game starting item list. The same happens to other classes with entities for starting items. Horse may spawn as a Unicorn (1% chance), potentially allowing easy completion of the Tame a Unicorn Challenge and allowing for 50% faster movement on horseback. Cowboys really are just normal cattle keepers, not gunslingers, this stereotype has appeared from the first Wild West movies, making this class inaccurate to the reality.
