The Chair is a common item in Dead Rails that is guaranteed to spawn in Furniture Stores and is commonly found in Abandoned Buildings. Additionally, 1 Chair always spawns in the Tesla Lab near the Brain. They can be used as fuel or seat players or certain entities that touch it when welded. Players who are sitting can jump to get up which makes them unable to sit in the same Chair for 3 seconds. The seating function makes the Chair's occupant move in sync with it, having a similar effect to welding an object. This is useful for laggy players or those using the Horse class since it prevents them from sliding around or falling off of a moving Train. Note that welded Horses and Turrets also share the seating function, though the former can be killed on accident and the latter prevents players from seeing behind them.

Strategies
In multiplayer games, it is highly recommend getting enough Chairs for everyone (minus the driver) to sit on. This prevents teammates from falling off the Train and having to stop and wait for them as a result. Although this issue got addressed in an update, bad internet, the Horse class's unusual hitboxes, and/or being pushed around by objects or other players can still cause players to fall. Accidental sitting can become an issue on cluttered or small Trains. A solution is to make a dedicated area for sitting and a dedicated area for storage. Allied Outlaws obtained with Eggslinger, Necromancer, Primordial Soup, or Jade items can be pushed into a welded Chair to prevent them from wandering around. This can also be done with Soldiers spawned from the President class. Sheet Metals or Newspapers rotated horizontally to make a platform can be used to transport them easily. Note that they may walk off if they are actively chasing an enemy. The Chair can be used to clip through walls. This can be very helpful, as players can completely block off the cab and use a Chair to get in so that entities cannot enter. Outlaws can sit on the chair if they are not already sitting on something else, so be careful when fighting Outlaws. The chair can be used to access the underside of the Armored Train. Simply place it next to the ladder and turn it to face forward.
Trivia
An immovable Chair spawns in the Blunderbuss room inside Stillwater Prison. Chairs provide the same amount of fuel as large corpses. Chairs (along with other items with a sitting function) technically weld sitting players to it. Category:Junk Category:Tools
