Overview[1]
5s (fuse time); 1-172 (explosion); 13 (ignited); Town; Mines The Zombie Miner, also known as the Dynamite Zombie, is an explosive Zombie variant in Dead Rails.
Zombie Miners are hostile Entities that have a 5% chance to replace any Normal Zombie in Abandoned Buildings and Towns, with increased chances in larger Towns. They also spawn in the Sterling Mines. Zombie Miners wear a Mining Helmet and a Miner's uniform, and carry a Dynamite. When a player gets close, the Zombie’s Dynamite ignites. If players stay within its blast radius, they suffer massive explosive damage. Even on death, an ignited fuse will remain ignited and will explode afterwards. However, placing the Zombie into your sack and taking it back out defuses the Dynamite despite it still being visually ignited. The Zombie Miner can perform melee atttacks as well dealing average damage to players. If The Zombie Miner was killed, their Dynamite is dropped and can be picked up and used. If the Dynamite was lit beforehand, it will explode even after its user's death. Zombie Miners have functional helmets which shine a light with 60-stud range and 1 brightness level in a 180 degree area in front of them. As of the January 31st update, their explosions wake up sleeping Zombies in a massive radius. This makes them potentially a huge threat for players who are unable to deal with the large numbers of Zombies. Additionally, the radius of the explosion is so large that it can awaken nearly every Zombie in a Large Town.

Strategies
It is important to keep distance. Do not let the Zombie Miner get near, as its speed matches the player’s. Ranged Weapons and Snake Oil are effective. Prioritize them first in a crowd, as if not killed early, they can ambush the player. Players can use ranged weapons to take them out from afar before they even have a chance to light the fuse. By using a Horse or speedy Class, it is possible to group up hordes of Zombies in a Town and lead one Zombie Miner to blow up all the others efficiently. Players shouldn’t let their guard down after killing one. The fuse stays lit, even if the Zombie Miner is dead. However, players can pick up and throw them or store them in their Sack to avoid the explosion. Storing them defuses them even after they are unstored, despite still being visibly lit. This is risky if the player doesn't know what they are doing, especially if the fuse has almost run out. If the player opts to throw them away, take care not to do so towards friendly units, as they may get caught in the blast and die. If the player opts to store them in the Sack, they can use their corpses as effective light sources, since their Mining Helmet has a similar light intensity to a Mining Helmet. When approaching a Town, never stop the Train near it, as a Zombie Miner can board and kill the players. Instead, stop in front of the Town and scout out and/or kill any Zombie Miners before stopping the Train. The only exception is if a fast Class such as the Vampire Class is used, as it allows outrunning them.
Patch history
Just like any other explosion, the Zombie Miner's explosion will wake up all other zombies in range, which is most, if not all of the zombies in a small town. The Zombie Miner's explosion can fling Items and players when close to the blast. Their Mining Helmet can't be picked up but players can still use the corpse as a better alternate to Torch or Lantern. If a player reanimates a dead Zombie Miner with the Strange Mask or Jade Sword, their Dynamite can still kill the player. The Zombie Miner's explosion can open the Bank without a Bank Note. As of the latest Update, their aggression range is reduced.
