Description

Mechanical Rot is the final boss of the second Halloween 2025 Live Event in Nil Zone. Mechanical Rot has three abilities: Its first ability is Minigun, where Mechanical Rot will start firing its right arm machine gun in a sweeping fashion, stunning towers for 6 seconds and dealing 50 damage to units per tick. The second ability is Cannon, in which Mechanical Rot will fire six explosive pumpkins at different towers. These pumpkins would explode upon impact, creating green smoke with a radius of 6 that stuns all towers hit by the explosion for 6 seconds while also dealing 50 damage to units. The last ability is Summon, where the Mechanical Rot starts laughing anywhere between 6 and 16 seconds. During this, it will summon enemies, each with their own chance to be summoned and delay before the Mechanical Rot can summon another enemy.

Logbook Description

"When the world went blank, the mechanical rot was cast into the Nil Zone. Memory stripped and soul hollowed, the actor rebuilt himself and his machine anew — not from purpose, but from the echo of what purpose once was."

Appearance

Mechanical Rot is a giant mechanical pumpkin robot with a pumpkin head (similar to ) and pumpkin shoulders, controlled by a a corrupted actor. On its hands it is armed with a minigun on the right and an explosive pumpkin launcher on the left. In its chest, there is a small cockpit which houses the actor controlling Mechanical Rot, along with two control sticks. It has mechanical legs and treaded feet. The actor controlling Mechanical Rot is a dark entity covered in purple binary.

Enemies Summoned

While using its Summon ability, it will being laughing for between 6 and 16 seconds. During this period, it can spawn any of the following enemies with the following chances and delays before next enemy spawns

Strategy

As this enemy only appears through Sandbox mode, no strategy section is made for its current version. Instead, a strategy section for the one that appeared without Sandbox mode in Nil Zone is listed instead. High DPS towers like the Accelerator, Turret, Engineer and Golden Minigunner are very effective against the Mechanical Rot. Stun immune towers like the Pursuit or Ranger can also be useful as they cannot be stunned by it. The DJ Booth and Commander can be also helpful at boosting your towers' range and firerate respectively. The Medic is quite useful, as it can protect your towers from Mechanical Rot's stun while also providing protected towers with buffs. As the Mechanical Rot initially spawns with Boss in the Nil Zone, it cannot be stalled through most methods. Stun towers like the Warden, Electroshocker or Archer cannot stun it but only slow it down. Freezing towers like the Freezer, Cryomancer or Elementalist similarly are unable to freeze it, but can still apply chill to it.

Patch history

Originally, BelowNatural wanted to name this enemy something along the lines of Corrupted Jack O' Bot. It ended up being given the name Mechanical Rot after a suggestion from Nim. The Mechanical Rot is a reimagined version of the Mechanical Rot from the legacy Hidden Wave. Based on its Logbook and its appearance, this version appears to be the Jack-o-Bot actor who was warped into the Nil Zone sometime after the The Haunted Past. Through logbooks of the other actor enemies, it can be inferred that this most likely happened at the same time as the "Glitch" which prevented The Great Finale from happening properly. The laugh that plays when it uses its Summon ability is the same laugh as the Lord Sinister laugh.
